Prime Salmon and Trout Fishing on the River Exe, Devon
Its Great Fishing is a mile of single bank fishing on the right hand bank of the River Exe between Tiverton and Bampton. There are nine pools on the beat and several riffles. It sits in the midst of glorious Devon scenery in the Exe valley. It is good fly water and salmon can be caught at nearly all heights of water, given some recent rain and fish in the river. Fishing the fly is easy, but if you prefer you can spin. We do not allow maggot, worm or prawn fishing. Brown Trout abound and grayling are normally caught in the autumn and winter. Escaped rainbows turn up, but should be removed if caught.
The Best Times to Fish
The Exe needs rain to salmon fish properly; they congregate in the estuary and run after the rain. Best times are May for the spring fish in the 8 - 15lb class, July for grilse 4 - 8lb (given some rain) and August, September and October for grilse and some bigger fish. Grayling are best in autumn and through the winter.
